For Sale — Rules & Safety
The local marketplace works because neighbors keep it friendly, honest, and useful. A few simple rules:
Listings are free, stay up for 30 days, and you can mark yours sold anytime. Keep it local — this is your town's bulletin board, not a national classifieds site.
What you can list
- Used household items, furniture, tools, and gear
- Homes and rentals in or near the town
- Free / giveaway items
- "In search of" (wanted) posts for things you're looking for
What's not allowed
Please don't list:
- Firearms, ammunition, or weapons
- Live animals or pets
- Alcohol, tobacco, vapes, or any controlled/illegal substances
- Prescription medication or medical devices
- Multi-level-marketing (MLM), dropshipping, or "business opportunity" posts
- Anything counterfeit, stolen, or that you can't legally sell
- Adult/explicit items or content
Photos
You may add up to three photos per listing. Photos are automatically screened, and anything explicit or inappropriate is removed. Keep photos to the actual item — no people's faces without permission, no offensive imagery.
Staying safe
- Meet in a public place when you can, and bring someone along for bigger sales.
- Cash or in-person payment is safest. Be wary of anyone who won't meet locally or pushes odd payment methods.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off, walk away.
How moderation works
New posters are approved by your town's volunteer organizer the first time they post, after which their listings go up right away. The organizer can remove anything that doesn't belong, and either of you can take a listing down. Report anything that breaks these rules and it'll be removed.
What's Local Now provides the bulletin board only. We're
not a party to any sale and don't handle payments, shipping, or guarantees. Buyers and sellers deal directly and at their own discretion. See our
Terms and
Privacy Policy for details.
